Data curation

The first step in developing an Insight report starts with curating your data inside the Insights platform. This can be done across the explore section, utilising the filters and date ranges to refine your search - see the workflow in Insights best practice: benchmark and farm stats reporting.

Once you are happy with your filters, it's time to review the individual farm data (if you haven't already). This is important if you're running a benchmark report, as you want consistency across the population of farm metadata e.g. if one of your farms in the benchmark pool doesn't have the farm hectares entered, yet you're running a $/ha analysis, this will slightly skew the results.

Saving filters

Before you go to review the data, it helps to save your filters preventing any accidental loss of your filter selections, and allows you to refer back to it - updating when necessary.

Click the 3 dashes > provide a name you can refer back to e.g. "Dairy Farms - Owner Operator" > select "Share with Practice" if you want others in your organisation to view it > click save.

If you want to learn more about your filters, click through to the article Insights: Filters.

Reviewing and refining the data

With your saved filter/desired filter selections, navigate to the Production tab under the Explore section.

Reviewing the correct data selection, farms, and filters, change the Grouped By to Farm to split out the individual farm view, as shown below. Quickly review the production elements you're checking for so that you know the data is populated.

You may want to repeat the process under the Financial Summary tab, as you will be able to quickly discern how the spread of financial data is categorised across the farms.

Once you are happy with the data included in your saved filter, ensure it is shared with the organisation and made available for reporting. This will then be available to select in the Insights Report drop-down.

Quick tip: Name your saved views as being identifiable by the type of farm group, period duration, and even your name e.g. "Dairy Farms June 19 - May 24 - your name"

Now continue with the workflow from step 2. onwards, in Insights best practice: benchmark and farm stats reporting.
